Mold testing PCR

PCR testing

A defined target.A closer look at DNA.

Some environmental questions call for a molecular approach. PCR examines selected genetic targets in a suitable sample, with the panel and purpose defined before collection.

A precise question gives the analysis a purpose.
  • A suitable environmental sample
  • Selected genetic targets
  • A panel with defined limits

Inside the method

Define the target.Understand the answer.

PCR is a method. The chosen targets, sample, and interpretation determine what it can tell you.

01The targets

Know what is on the panel.

A targeted PCR assay looks for particular genetic sequences. Different panels ask different questions; there is no single panel that describes everything in a building.

What we clarify
The organisms of interest, why they matter to your investigation, and whether an appropriate laboratory assay is available.

An organism outside the selected panel is outside that test's answer.

02The sample

Collection still matters.

The laboratory specifies which environmental sample types its assay accepts. We confirm the sample plan and handling requirements before arranging collection.

Useful information to share
Previous reports, the areas of concern, and the decision you hope the result will inform.

The result describes the submitted sample and the targets actually analyzed.

03The meaning

Detection needs interpretation.

Detecting target DNA does not, by itself, establish active growth, a moisture source, or a person's exposure. The report belongs alongside the property investigation.

About ERMI
ERMI is one specific DNA-based index developed for research. EPA has not validated it for non-research use; it is not a general pass-or-fail rating for a home.

We discuss whether PCR adds useful information before recommending it for your question.

What to expect

A thoughtful plan.A useful next step.

We start with your concern, agree on the scope, and make the findings easier to understand.

  1. 01

    Name the question

Explain the concern and the decision the analysis needs to support.

  2. 02

    Confirm the assay

Agree on targets, accepted sample type, handling, and laboratory availability.

  3. 03

    Review in context

Connect the reported targets with the inspection and the scope of the method.

Before we visit

Send previous molecular reports or a requested panel before the visit. We can discuss whether the same question, sampling approach, and reporting method apply.

Reading the findings

Specific information.Thoughtfully explained.

See how inspection adds context
What the report brings
Look for the analyzed targets, sample identifier, reporting units, and laboratory qualifications attached to the result.
What gives it meaning
A molecular finding is one part of an investigation. It does not replace observations of moisture, damage, or conditions in the building.

Your questions.Thoughtfully answered.

Talk with our team
What does PCR stand for?

Polymerase chain reaction. It is a laboratory technique that amplifies selected DNA sequences so they can be detected. Environmental testing uses assays designed for particular targets.

Is PCR the same as ERMI?

No. PCR is a laboratory method; ERMI is a particular research index using a defined set of mold measurements. A request for PCR does not automatically mean an ERMI test.

Does a positive result mean mold is actively growing?

Not by itself. DNA detection needs to be interpreted with the assay, sample history, and property observations. It does not establish viability or locate a current moisture source on its own.

Is this a medical PCR test?

No. This service discussion is about environmental samples from a property. Personal symptoms and medical testing belong with a qualified healthcare professional.

What will it cost, and when will results be ready?

The sample plan, requested analysis, and laboratory availability determine the cost and turnaround. We confirm the proposed scope, preparation, and expected timing before you proceed.
